The role and
function of the Health Care Complaints Commission
The
Health Care Complaints Commission acts to protect public health and safety
byresolving, investigating and prosecuting complaints about health care.
The Commissionprovides a variety of core services.
- The Commission responds to inquiries by consumers who are concerned
about the health care that they have been provided with. These concerns
may amountto complaints that should be dealt with by the Commission.
- The Commission provides an independent service to assess consumer
concerns and attempts to resolve them.
- The Commission investigates matters that raise serious issues, and
prosecutes complaints about registered health practitioners before
disciplinary bodies where there are proper grounds to do so.
The Commission works closely with the Dental Board in
handling complaints.
